Summer Selection 2007

For the Summer 2007 Offer we feature wines of the Loire and Languedoc with a Beaujolais from our virtual trip through France.
We chose from a small producer in Vouvray a mature Chenin Blanc, long considered out of fashion but now making a comeback. Old styled and produced with loving care by a family firm.

On our journey along the Loire we reach Bue, a village outside of Sancerre yet steeped in the tradition of mineral and rich Sauvignons.

Before travelling to Languedoc we stop in the region of Beaujolais.
A southern satellite of the Burgundy region, lying to the west of Villefranche-sur-Saone, close to the A6 autoroute. It is a very pretty area, with green rolling hills and extinct volcanoes in the north, and flatter land in the south. We feature a Chiroubles again.

From the Languedoc we provide a light Faugeres and a heavy Syrah Vin de Pays from a new find near Pezenas.

They are very good value at these prices.

Jean Claude Aubert

Vouvray AOC Sec 1999
This dry wine, delicate and lively on the palate has a bouquet of acacia, fresh grape, quince and almond. Seductive when young it has now developed a rich aromatic intensity. It goes well with pork and shell fish.

Daniel Crochet

Sancerre Blanc 2005
Has a balanced acidity of sauvignon Blanc with freshness of fruit.

Sancerre Blanc Plante des Pres 2004
This grape has brought more fame to Alsace than any other. It has a distinctive, spicy, dry - finish with a hint of sweetness, and floral overtones. Often drunk as an aperitif, it is also ideal with the
rich Alsace cooking.

Meziat Pierre

Chiroubles Vielles Vignes 2004
A wine with aromas of soft red fruits and blackcurrants is produced from these old vines on granite slopes from the gamay grape. There are velvety tannins and a hint of peonies and violets.

Ch. Grezan

Commanderie St Jean Rouge 2003
This is a wine of the south, a delightful blend of Merlot, Syrah and Pinot, which suggests red fruits with a hint of leather. The soft tannins make for easy drinking. A perfect accompaniment to meats, pasta and poultry.

Domaine Bourdic

Vins de Pays des Cotes de Thau Rouge Syrah 2001
The Syrah 2001 is a big, muscly red. Chewy and long-lasting, this is the wine for hunter-gatherers – perfect with a haunch of wild boar or a venison stew.
