Weingut Richard Schmitt

Randersacker Teufelskeller Bacchus Kabinett 2000

A crossing of Silvaner and Riesling from vineyards high above the village. Lots of fresh fruit – hints of apple and citrus fruit – drink now.

Weingut Robert Schmitt

Although the winery is renowned for its bone-dry white wines, we have unearthed a real treasure with a medium sweet Spatlese. Bruno Schmitt’s winemaking has followed his family traditions and we know you will be pleased with the result.

Randersacker Maarsberg Albalonga Spatlese 1999

This grape is only grown in tiny quantities. It is a cross of Rieslander and Silvaner and the result is an outstanding wine. Part of the crop has been "blessed" with noble rot. Meticulous selection of the grapes and careful winemaking ensures a superb wine.

Randersacker Maarsberg Albalonga Spatlese 1999

A cross between Rieslaner and Silvaner, this grape is grown in minute quantities. Smooth, with a honeyed grapefruit edge, this wine will keep for many years yet

Castell

Owned by one of Germany’s oldest private banks (of the same name) this estate of 41 hectares can trace it pedigree back to 1253! Castell produces a wide range of wines, but we have selected two, which we know you will enjoy.

Casteller Hohnhart Reisling Kabinett 2000 Trocken

Dry German wine with good length and a delightful hint of grapefruit. A classic.

Schloss Castell Domina 1999 - Red

Full fruity and smooth – a good all rounder with food. Again a wine that will provide lots of interest – truly a "different" type of wine.

The only wine region in Bavaria (centred on the city of Wurzburg) this area specialises in outstanding dry white wines (and offers some superb sweet wines and excellent reds as well!).
Franconian wines are not so well known outside Germany so this is your only opportunity to try some treasures that would normally be difficult to source.
Franconia possesses a special climate, which is ideally suited for making full fruit wines with refreshing acidity.
So proud are the Franconian wine makers they use the centuries old flagon shaped bottle known locally as a "bocksbeutel" to ensure their wines are easily identifiable. This is bound to be a conversation piece.
The soils of the region are many and varied, but there is a true reflection of Franconia's geology in its wines. This gives the wines a lovely raciness.
Franconian wines are ideal partners with a wide range of foods, or can be enjoyed as a refreshing aperitif.
The region also produces a small amount of red wine and we are delighted to feature a wine made from the Domina grape – again another rare find.
There is a true renaissance in German wines – this is your chance to prove this excitement is not hype.
