Domain Hubert

Weingut Richard Schmitt

Teufelskeller Bacchus Kabinett 2001

From Weingut Richard Schmitt we include Teufelskeller Bacchus Kabinett 2001. Lots of fresh fruit, including hints of apple and citrus fruit. A favourite.

Weingut Trockene Schmitt

Ewig Leben Reisling Kabinett 2001

Hints of elderflower, very dry and not too fruity.

Randersacker Maarsberg Albalonga Spatlese 1999

A cross between Rieslaner and Silvaner, this grape is grown in minute quantities. Smooth, with a honeyed grapefruit edge, this wine will keep for many years yet

Castell

Finally in our Franconia selection from Castell, an estate of 65 hectares. The family that own this domain also own one of the countries oldest private banks and a forestry estate.

Casteller Hohnhart Reisling Kabinett 2001

Good balanced acidity with a hint of grapefruit. A classic.

Schloss Castell Domina 2000

A full, fruity, smooth, rounded red with good tannins and a hint of wild strawberries and cherries. Superb drinking.

Domain Hubert

Hubert Bourgueil 1997 Vielles Vignes

To balance the choice from Germany, Harlequin Wines returned to Domaine Hubert. This long-established family estate of 24 hectares was founded in the village of Benais in 1730.

Last Spring, we quickly sold out of the 1997 Bougeuil, so this Autumn we offer the special Hubert Bourgueil 1997 Vielles Vignes (old vines).

The 50 year old vines are grown on the argilo-limestone south facing slopes called "tuffs". These conditions produce a wine which requires extra aging to show the beautiful cabernet franc characteristics. We have waited an extra year, to allow the tannins time to soften, so this serious wine is now ready to enjoy.

A rare opportunity to gain an insight into the flavours and character of the very finest Franconian Wines. If you haven't sampled from this region before, it will transform your opinion of German wine-making.
Alongside the wide selection from Franconia, we are delighted to introduce a French heavy-weight to you, a peerless cabinet franc.
Franconia specialises in outstanding dry white wines, extremely popular in Germany and starting to gain long-overdue recognition elsewhere.
The Franconian winemakers use the centuries-old flagon shaped bottle, known locally as a "bocksbeutal" to ensure the easy identification of their wines.
Randersacker, a charming Bavarian village - home to some of the finest wine makers - has long been a favourite of Harlequin Wines.
