Domaine de la Dentante St. Veran 2003

A rich and elegant wine. When young it has much sought after pear and apple aromas. These now have evolved into a more complex bouquet of honey, almonds and roasted hazelnuts.

Domaine de la Dentante Pouilly Fuisse 2003

This wine has a golden straw colour and exhibits white fruit notes on both the nose and palate. The structure is flawless and the balanced acidity with richness assures the long finish that follows. Will still develop more of the roasted nut aromas. It's an excellent wine at a great price.
Beaujolais

Domaine Marquis des Pontheux Chiroubles 2002

The gamay grape produced from these old vines on granite slopes a wine with aromas of soft red fruits and blackcurrants. There are velvety tannins and a hint of peonies and violets.

Domaine de la Combe au Loup Regnie 2002

A cherry-red, violet tinged wine. The most striking characteristic on the nose is the terroir, a perfume of concentrated cherries, underpinned with a mineral/pebbly aroma. On the palate the fruit is dense with rich Kirsch flavours.

Made on a unique terroir of loose crumbling schistous rock. Intense garnet in colour and with aromas of ripe cherries, peaches, apricots and plums.

If you like big oaky Chardonnays, you can stop right here. However, if your preference in white wines runs to fresh, clean, pure Chardonnay fruit, read on.
Pouilly-Fuisse is located in the Maconnais, a region south of the Cote d'Or and Cote Chalonnaise and on the northern border of Beaujolais. Pouilly-Fuisse refers to the appellation and circles the newer appellation of St. Veran.
To discover the best expression of Maconnais among Burgundy fine white wines Harlequin Wines have chosen a small producer in the village of Davaye.
We first visited Robert Martin two years ago. Recently we returned to his small domaine of 9 hectares to find that he still produces fine examples of Pouilly-Fuisse and the newer appellation of St. Veran.
Beaujolais
Harlequin Wines has long had a love affair with Cru Beaujolais. We feel the wines are due for a re-evaluation. You can forget the pale watery Nouveau, the Grand Crus wines still offer the best value in Beaujolais, none more than our chosen producers Domaine Marquis des Pontheux and Domaine de Combe de Loup, both in the village of Chiroubles. We have chosen 3 examples from the 10 Beaujolais Crus.
